When David received a Stage IV cancer diagnosis and was no longer able to continue, he asked Catherine to carry forward the campaign they had built together.

Catherine holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in economics, giving her the financial analysis and quantitative skills essential to the State Auditor's role — from reading complex financial statements to identifying irregularities in public accounts.
At Walmart's corporate headquarters, Catherine managed financial projections, reporting, and operational decision-making for a division generating more than $165 million annually. The precision, analytical rigor, and accountability that work demanded are exactly the standards she will bring to auditing South Dakota's state agencies.
Catherine assisted SEC investigators in uncovering previously unknown criminal financial activity that contributed to successful prosecutions. This direct investigative experience — following the money, identifying irregularities, and building cases — is precisely the skillset a State Auditor needs to protect South Dakota from fraud and misuse of public funds.
As president, Catherine guided an organization of 500 members, 30 committees, and 15 clubs. During her term, the SDFRW achieved record growth in membership, fundraising, and statewide engagement — demonstrating her ability to lead, organize, and deliver results.
